March 24, 2018 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Hershey Bears News Release
(Hartford, CT)- Madison Bowey scored his first two goals of the season, and Vitek Vanecek stopped 26 shots en route to a 2-1 win for the Hershey Bears over the Hartford Wolf Pack on Saturday at the XL Center.
After a scoreless first period where the Wolf Pack held a 7-3 shot advantage, Bowey opened the scoring at 6:30 of the middle stanza. On a transition after Hartford was unable to convert on a 2-on-1 rush, Jeremy Langlois dropped a pass to Bowey along the left wing in the offensive end. A quick snapshot beat Marek Mazanec glove side for Bowey's first goal since Game 5 of the 2017 Atlantic Division Finals in Providence. Nathan Walker earned the secondary helper on the play, marking his 100th career AHL point.
Only 1:53 later, Hartford drew even on a breakaway tally. On a headman pass into the offensive zone from Vinni Lettieri, Cole Schneider opened up Vanecek and beat him low to the ice, through the five-hole, for his 15th tally of the season.
In the closing moments of the period, Hartford received another breakaway chance, but Vanecek received a helping hand from defender Connor Hobbs. With former Bear John Albert streaking in all alone, Vanecek stopped the initial shot but was pulled out of his crease. The follow-up chance towards an open cage was stopped by the face of a sprawling Hobbs in the blue paint.
In the third period, Bowey scored his second goal of the game to lift Hershey over Hartford, 2-1. Bowey received a cross-ice feed to the right wing from Wayne Simpson and roofed a shot from the face-off circle.
Hershey was outshot 27-22 in the contest. Hershey went 0-for-3 on the power play while Hartford was 0-for-7. The Chocolate and White improved to 28-30-4-5 with the win.
Hershey returns to the Giant Center tomorrow evening to conclude a home-and-home with the Wolf Pack at 5 p.m. It's Fairview Golf Course Golf Ball Night, and first 3,000 fans in attendance will receive a custom Hershey Bears golf ball courtesy of Fairview Golf Course. Ticket information is available at HersheyBears.com.
