
Komets stop Fury, cage Outlaws

Fort Wayne, IN --- The Komets gained 4 points in the Western Confererence sweeping both games played in week 6 of the 2004-05 campaign.
Wednesday night the Komets handed the Muskegon Fury their first home regulation loss of the season 6-3. 6 different players scored for the Komets including Jonathan Goodwin, Rob Guinn, Jason Kean, Chris Grenville, P.C. Drouin and Tom Nelson. Goodwin added 2 assists to his first Komet goal of the season for his first career 3-point game. Newcomer David Hukalo passed 2 assists in his Komet debut after joining the Komets in a trade with Kalamazoo. Goaltender Tyler Masters registered his 2nd win of the season stopping 18 of 21 shots.
Friday the Komets pleased a home crowd of 7,115 with a 4-2 win over the visiting Kansas City Outlaws. While outshooting the Outlaws 41-18 (Fort Wayne leads the UHL with an average of 35.4 shots per game) the Komets picked up goals by Dustin Virag, Colin Chaulk and a pair from Sean Venedam. Netminder Kevin St. Pierre earned his 6th win of the season making 16 saves.
This week the Komets see action in 4 scheduled games. Wednesday the K's meet the Wings at Kalamazoo at 7pm in the first meeting of the season. Thursday the Komets host the Quad City Mallards for Thanksgiving at 7:30pm. Saturday the Komets and Mallards tangle at The Mark of the Quad Cities at 8pm. The Komets return to Fort Wayne to face Muskegon in the first Sunday home game of the season at 5pm.

Komets get Hukalo for Kotyluk.....Nov. 16 the Komets announced that they acquired winger David Hukalo from the Kalamazoo Wings in a trade for winger Kevin Kotyluk. Hukalo, 26, is in his 2nd pro year and netted 4 goals and 7 points while appearing in 11 games at the start of this season with Kalamazoo.
Komets at Thanksgiving.....the Komets will be playing their 43rd consecutive Thanksgiving home game this Thursday when they host Quad City at 7:30pm. Since the franchise started in 1952, the Komets have posted a 25-14-3 home record on Thanksgiving. Since joining the UHL in 1999, the Komets are 3-2-0 at home on turkey night. The very first Komet home Thanksgiving game was played Nov. 22, 1962 when the Komets defeated Sudbury 8-6 in IHL play. Thursday night will mark the 46th consecutive Thanksgiving game for the Fort Wayne franchise. The Komets played 3 road Thanksgiving games in 1959 (6-1 win at Louisville), 1960 (6-5 win at Muskegon) and 1961 (8-3 loss at Muskegon) before beginning the Fort Wayne Thanksgiving holiday tradition in 1962. The Komets did not play on Thanksgiving during their first 7 years of existence.
Skate with the Komets Sunday.....it's the first Sunday post-game Wendy's Family Skate with the Komets of the season this Sunday, Nov. 28, after the Komets tangle with the Muskegon Fury at 5pm. Fans can bring their skates and take advantage of the free skate after the game.
