Kalamazoo Wings News Release

Kalamazoo started their perfect 2-0-0 week on Wednesday, November 17th at the McMorran Place Arena in Port Huron, Michigan. The K-Wings jumped out to the one-nothing lead midway into the opening period, when Gray Shaneberger (1) deflected a Tyler Willis pass past Beacons goaltender Daniel Berthiaume. In the second stanza, Kalamazoo's Daniel Carriere (3) snapped a shot from atop of the right circle to extend the K-Wings lead to 2-0. Later in the period, after Port Huron's Malcolm MacMillian (4) cut the K-Wings lead to a single goal; Kalamazoo would answer right back with a goal from Andrew Luciuk (4), which regained a two goal lead for Kalamazoo. In the third period, Port Huron's David Alexander Beauregard gave the Beacons new life with his seventh goal of the year, which put the Beacons back within a goal at 3-2. Later in the period, Kalamazoo scored an insurance goal, as recently acquired Kevin Kotyluk (4), scored his very first goal as a K-Wings in his very first game with Kalamazoo. The K-Wings kept the pressure on the Beacons and because of the pressure the K-Wings added another goal this time it was Tyler Willis (1) scoring the games final goal off a deflection to give the K-Wings a 5-2 victory over the Beacons.

The K-Wings finished off the week and in the process started a two-game home stand on Friday, November 19th against the Missouri River Otters. Coming into the game, the River Otters had a three-game winning streak and were undefeated in their last four games. Also, Missouri goaltender Jason Tapp was just 62 minutes shy of breaking the leagues record for consecutive minutes without giving up a goal. After a scoreless opening period, the K-Wings ended the shutout streak of Tapp, when Andrew Luciuk (6) scored a power-play goal 1:46 into the second period to give the K-Wings a 1-0 lead. Midway into the second, the K-Wings struck again, this time it was Yannick Carpentier (3) deflected a Shaun Fisher blast past Tapp to extend the K-Wings lead to 2-0. Missouri tried to mount a comeback later in the period, as Mat Snesrud (1) slid a rebound past Chad Alban to cut the K-Wings lead to 2-1. In the third period, the K-Wings concluded the games scoring the same way they started it, with a Luciuk (6) power-play goal, which gave the K-Wings a 3-1 victory over the Otters to end Missouri's four-game unbeaten streak and extended the K-Wings winning streak to two-games.

Fast Forward

For the first time this season, the K-Wings will endure three games in three nights. Kalamazoo will start the week at home on Wednesday, November 24th, when their arch-rivals the Fort Wayne Komets come to town. The Komets start the week in fourth place in the Western Division and just 2 points out of second place. The game also marks the first time that former Komet Kevin Kotyluck will get to play against the team he played with for three years.

The K-Wings will conclude the week in Kansas City, Missouri on both Thanksgiving and on Friday, November 26th. The K-Wings will make their first visit to Kemper Arena since the IHL days, when they play the Kansas City Outlaws. Kalamazoo is 1-0-0 against the Outlaws this season. Kansas City starts the week in fifth place in the Western Division with a record of 6-10-0. The game on Thanksgiving ends a 15 game road swing for the Outlaws; however, it will start a stretch of six straight road games for Kalamazoo.

The Holiday Road

After the K-Wings host the Fort Wayne Komets this Wednesday, Kalamazoo will hit the road for a six-game road swing. The 6 game-stretch matches the K-Wings longest road swing of the year.

Reeds to Coach His 600th

Friday will be a special night for Head Coach Mark Reeds. The game will mark the 600th career game that Reeds will coach. In his coaching career, Reeds is an impressive 339-197-62 in the 597 games he has been behind the bench.

Feels Like the First Time

Wednesday night will be the first time that former Fort Wayne Komet Kevin Kotyluk will face his former team. Kotyluk has traded last week from Fort Wayne to Kalamazoo for David Hukalo.

Road Warriors

Besides starting a six-game road swing on Thursday, the K-Wings will also be looking to extend a streak. The K-Wings start the week on a three-game road winning streak.

The Obscure Stat of the Week

The K-Wings will play the Kansas City Outlaws this Thursday on Thanksgiving. In their UHL history, the K-Wings are 9-8-1 on games played on holidays.
