TRASHERS WEEK IN REVIEW

DANBURY JUMPS OUT EARLY--TAKES A 'BITE' OUT OF ADIRONDACK IN 3-2 WIN

November 20, 2004

The Danbury Trashers bounced back from a shoot-out loss to Elmira with a 3-2 win over the Adirondack Frostbite, in front of a crowd of 2,268 at the Danbury Ice Arena on Saturday night.

Nine different Trashers notched a point in the effort, and Scott Stirling turned aside 27 of 29 shots.

Danbury forward Brad Wingfield opened the scoring - just 21 seconds out of the penalty box - with a goal at 1:17 of the first, Jim Duhart and Nic Bilotto getting the assists. Just under five minutes later, Blake Bellefeuille put in his 4th of the year from Bruce Richardson and Doug Christiansen.

Adirondack cut the lead in half at 1:30 of the second frame as Bruce Gardiner made it a 2-1 game, on assists from Ryan Bennett and David Burgess. The Trashers responded with a power-play goal from Mario Larocque with the Frostbite's Kamil Kuriplach in the box for a tripping call. Brent Gretzky and J.F. David got the assists on the tally.

Scott Drevitch put the Frostbite within a goal in the third period (11:47, Burgess, Gardiner) and with Danbury Wingfield in the box for the game's closing minutes, Adirondack pulled netminder Derek Gustafson for a two-man advantage. The Trashers held strong, and skated away with a 3-2 win.

Scott Stirling was first star of the game with his performance in net, while Gustafson stopped 28 of 32. The Larocque goal was the only special teams tally of the night for either side.

TRASHERS FALL 3-2 IN SHOOTOUT TO ELMIRA

November 19, 2004

Nathan Gillies and George Pujacs scored shootout goals past Trashers netminder Scott Stirling as Elmira came from behind to defeat Danbury 3-2 in a shootout on Friday night at the Danbury Ice Arena.

The Trashers jumped out to a 1st period lead on Semir Ben-Amor's 2nd of the season from Bruce Richardson at the 0:49 second mark of the period, in the only goal of the first period.

Elmira's Eddy Lowe tied the game at 1-1 in the 2nd on a goal at the 3:37 mark from Gillies and Pujacs. The tie was short-lived as Blake Bellefeuille tied it at the 5:25 mark from Jeff State after State had jumped out of the penalty box following a holding call at the 3:15 mark of the period.

Gillies then scored his 2nd of the season from Greg Koehler and Pujacs at the 1:25 mark of the 3rd period, which forced the shootout. Richardson scored on the Trashers' first try in the shootout after Stirling stopped the dangerous Koehler, who leads the UHL in scoring.

Danbury falls to 8-6-1 (17 points) as they earn one point in the shootout loss, while Elmira remains in 1st place with a 10-7-0 (20 points) mark.
