
Komets Cap Three-Game Weekend Sweep

Fort Wayne, IN | Monday, February 21, 2011 -- The Komets gained six points in four games for week 19 of 2010-11 capping a three-game weekend sweep and advancing to seventh place in the Turner Conference for the first time this season. The Komets trail fourth-place Bloomington by five points with 17 games remaining in the push for home-ice advantage in the playoffs.
Fort Wayne is 5-1-0 in the last six games and 11-2-0 in the last 13 games for a .846 winning pace since Jan. 28. The special K's converted six of 17 power play chances (35.3%) and were successful on 24 of 26 penalty kills (92.3%). Fort Wayne continues to have the best home power play in the CHL with 25.2% (35/139) and has moved up to second best overall on the power play at 19.6% (53/270). The Komets are 8-2-0 for February (compared to 8-3-1 in February, 2010) with three games remaining in the month after posting an 8-3-2 record in January.

The Komets suffered their first loss at Bloomington in four visits, snapping an eight-game road win string. The loss also snapped a five-game winning streak for goaltender Kevin Reiter who hadn't lost since facing Bloomington in Fort Wayne Jan. 22.
Friday, Feb. 18, at Fort Wayne Komets 6 Dayton Gems 3
Four Komets registered three-point nights. Tab Lardner (2 goals, 1 assist), Sean O'Connor (1 goal, 2 assists), Frankie DeAngelis (3 assists) and Guy Dupuis (1 goal, 2 assists). The Komets were successful on 10 of 11 penalty kills, while scoring on three of four power play chances.
Saturday, Feb. 19, Fort Wayne Komets 3 at Quad City Mallards 2
A late goal by Leo Thomas, his only point of the week, sealed the victory for the Komets at 1:09 of the third period. It was the first Fort Wayne win in four trips to Quad City. Goalie Kevin Reiter earned the win in his first game against Quad City this year. The Komets improve to 3-4-2 against the Mallards with one meeting remaining.
Sunday, Feb. 20, at Fort Wayne Komets 4 Dayton Gems 0
The Komets scored their third shutout of the season to take a three-game winning streak into week 20. Nick Boucher snagged his first shutout of the season, seventh as a Komet and the 17th of his career. The Komets extended their win streak over Dayton to six games with two meetings remaining. Center Mathieu Curadeau pushed his point-scoring streak to five games (3 goals, 3 assists) with an assist for his 200th career point. Center Colin Chaulk finished the week with an assist for a three-game point streak (1 goal, 2 assists). Defenseman Craig Cescon scored Fort Wayne's first goal of the game and eventual game winner for his first goal of the season.

Friday, Feb. 25, Quad City Mallards (28-22-1, 57 points) at Fort Wayne Komets (24-20-5, 53 points), 8pm ET
The Mallards will visit for the last meeting of the season. The Komets are 2-1-2 in the previous five Quad City visits and 3-4-2 overall against the Mallards. The Komets solved the Mallards for the first time in six games last Saturday night at Quad City 3-2 with a late goal by Leo Thomas. The Mallards are 2-3-0 in their last five games. The Komets are idle this week until they welcome the Mallards Friday. Quad City skates Monday at Bloomington before traveling to Fort Wayne Friday.
Saturday, Feb. 26, Evansville IceMen (16-28-7, 39 points) at Fort Wayne Komets, 7:30pm ET
The Komets will face the IceMen for the first time since a 2-0 home win Feb. 13. The Komets lead the season series 3-2-1 with five meetings remaining, including three in Fort Wayne. Evansville has lost four straight games and is 1-6-2 their last nine games. The IceMen will face the Gems at Dayton Friday before tripping to Fort Wayne Saturday.
Sunday, Feb. 27, Fort Wayne Komets at Dayton Gems (23-21-4, 50 points), 5pm ET
The Komets will travel to Dayton for the seventh and final time Sunday. Fort Wayne is 7-4-1 overall against the Gems and 3-2-1 at Hara Arena after six previous trips. The Komets have won the last six straight meetings including Sunday's 4-0 shutout on Coliseum ice and have outscored the Gems 22-9 in those last six games. Dayton hosts Evansville Friday and Quad City Saturday before skating their third home game in three nights when Fort Wayne visits Sunday.
KOMETS PLAYER OF THE WEEK -- GOALTENDER NICK BOUCHER
Nick Boucher appeared in two games posting a 2-0-0 record, a 1.50 goals-against average and .955 save percentage for the week. Boucher snagged his first shutout of the season in a 33-save performance Sunday against Dayton for a 4-0 win. Boucher improved his overall record to 15-11-4 (from 13-11-4), 3.06 goals-against average (from 3.17) and a .902 save percentage (from .898).
INDIANA NATIONAL GUARD JERSEY NIGHT SATURDAY
The Komets will don their special Indiana National Guard jerseys Saturday night
when they host the Evansville IceMen at 7:30 as part of National Guard Night.
A silent auction for each of the game worn jerseys will take place during the game
with all net proceeds donated to the Indiana National Guard Relief Fund.
