Gems Release Schwartzbauer, Sign Jake Pence

DAYTON, OH - The Dayton Gems announced on Monday that defenseman Nathan Schwartzbauer has been released from the team and Jake Pence has been added to the active roster.

Pence, who played 20 games with Evansville earlier this season, recorded one assist for the IceMen.

This is Pence's fifth season in professional hockey. He started his career with the Fresno Falcons in the ECHL before becoming a member of the Fort Wayne Komets from 2007-2009. While with the Komets, Pence scored three goals and recorded 23 assists.

Last year, Pence played for the Flint Generals in the IHL. He recorded 26 points for the Generals on six goals and 20 assists.

Schwartzbauer's departure comes after the defenseman played 44 games for the Gems this season.

The five-year veteran has spent four years of his career in the CHL. Prior to joining the Gems, Schwartzbauer played with the Mississippi RiverKings, Missouri Mavericks and the Youngstown Steelhounds.

He also spent one year in the ECHL, where Schwartzbauer played with the Dayton Bombers.
