Join the Mudbugs for Pink in the Rink Weekend

February 21, 2011 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release

BOSSIER CITY, LA - The Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs of the Central Hockey League are proud to once again team up with the Northwest Louisiana affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure for our second-annual "Pink in the Rink" presented by Edible Arrangements this Thursday and Saturday at the CenturyTel Center! The Mudbugs, Edible Arrangements, and associate sponsor Willis-Knighton Health System are devoting the entire weekend to promoting breast cancer awareness and raising funds for the cause locally.

In order to mark the occasion, the games Thursday at 6:35 against the Bloomington PrairieThunder and Saturday at 7:05 vs. the rival Texas Brahmas will be played on specially-painted pink ice! The Mudbugs will also wear pink jerseys during both games, which will then be auctioned off live to the fans following Saturday ‚¬â„¢s game. Also being sold during the live post-game auction will be other pink items, including signed pink hockey sticks used by select players during pre-game warm-ups.

50 percent of the proceeds from all auctions will then be donated to the local affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, along with $1.00 from all single-game and group tickets sold for both games. This year we ‚¬â„¢ve added the "Bugs 4 Jugs " 5K walk to our events in order to raise even more money and awareness for Komen.

"Last year our fans really stepped up and got involved in ‚¬ËœPink in the Rink ‚¬â„¢, and as a result we raised almost $10,000 for the local Susan G. Komen affiliate," said Vice President & General Manager Jason Campbell. "This year we ‚¬â„¢d love to top that number by getting even more people in the building on Thursday and Saturday, and also through our new ‚¬ËœBugs 4 Jugs ‚¬â„¢ walk on Saturday morning."

"We ‚¬â„¢ve already got nearly 4,000 tickets out for Saturday ‚¬â„¢s game and are hoping the community will help us get that number to around 7,000. These are great events and we ‚¬â„¢re very excited to make this year ‚¬â„¢s ‚¬ËœPink in the Rink ‚¬â„¢ even better than it was last year!"

The weekend also provides an opportunity for the Mudbugs to recognize and share the stories of those who are currently battling breast cancer, along with survivors of the disease. This week ‚¬â„¢s games will feature testimonials from breast cancer survivors, and we encourage you to get in the spirit by wearing pink to the games and help us "Pink Out" the CenturyTel Center!

In order to help serve those who have been impacted by cancer most, the Mudbugs have also teamed up with American Airlines, the Shreveport Airport Authority, and a number of local hospitals to distribute tickets for Saturday ‚¬â„¢s game to cancer survivors and current patients throughout the Bossier-Shreveport area.

"As a global sponsor of the Susan G. Komen Foundation, American Airlines/American Eagle are proud to partner with the Shreveport Airport Authority and the Mudbugs in support of the upcoming ‚¬ËœPink the Rink ‚¬â„¢ games!" said Regional Manager of Business Development and Sales Kathy Cargile. "It is a true privilege and honor to support such a worthwhile event and welcome families who are currently fighting this terrible disease for a fun night out at a Mudbugs hockey game. We look forward to welcoming you aboard American Airlines and American Eagle from the Shreveport Regional Airport the next time you fly!"

"The Airport Authority recognizes American Airlines ‚¬â„¢ efforts to support Shreveport/Bossier City and the entire region," William Cooksey of the Shreveport Airport Authority said. "

American Airlines has a long history of supporting Christmas in the Sky, Susan G. Komen, and many other non-profit organizations. We look forward to working with American Airlines throughout the year to build community awareness of the investment the airline is making in Shreveport/Bossier City."
