Fort Worth Brahmas News Release
NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas (February 21)- Count them: six. The Brahmas extended their winning streak to six games Monday evening in a 4-1 victory at the NYTEX Sports Centre.
It was a story of mentor and student at the NYTEX Sports Centre with the return of former goalie Kevin Beech in net against Texas rookie netminder Wayne Savage. The pupil was tested first when a shot from the top of the point by Andrew Martens slipped past Savage for a 1-0 Wichita lead. The Brahmas didn ¬â¢t need too long to counteract when :41 seconds later Mick Lawrence ¬â¢s second efforts in Beech ¬â¢s crease resulted in his 13th goal of the season and a tied game.
Texas began the second on the powerplay and Jason Deitsch found the puck and nestled it safely next to the post and behind Beech for the 2-1 lead. Thunder ¬â¢s leading scorer Jesse Bennefield had a breakaway opportunity midway in the middle frame just to be stoned by Savage. A special teams present was delivered to Texas in the form of a 5-on-3 powerplay in the third, and it was Chad Woollard from the top of the point finding daylight to extend his goal scoring streak to eight straight games. Ross Rouleau was awarded a penalty shot late in the game when he was tripped up on a breakaway, but Beech stood strong closing the doors on his former teammate. Savage stopped 32 shots in net for his 16th win of the night and Texas went 3-5 on the powerplay.
The Brahmas have a tough stretch to come with five games in seven nights beginning on the road Wednesday in Wichita (7:05 pm) and then to Allen Friday evening (7:30 pm). On Saturday, Texas visits the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs (7:05) before finally returning home Sunday afternoon to take on Bloomington for the first time this season (4 pm).
