
Knights Drop Sunday's Game to 'Pigs 6-3

(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) - First baseman Xavier Fernández had three hits, including a two-run home run, but the Charlotte Knights wrapped up the first half of the 2022 season with a 6-3 loss over the Lehigh Valley IronPigs on Sunday from Truist Field in Uptown Charlotte. The Knights loaded the bases in the ninth inning, but fell just short to the 'Pigs. The Knights won two of the six games in the series.
Fernández led the way for the Knights with his three-hit game and two-run blast in the ninth inning. It was his second home run of the season. The Knights scored all three runs over the final two innings of the game.
Chicago White Sox catcher Yasmani Grandal continued his rehab assignment and went 0-for-2 with three walks on Sunday. Grandal hit .333 over six games on the rehab assignment.
Lehigh Valley first baseman Josh Ockimey led the way for the IronPigs offensively. Ockimey launched a grand slam in the seventh inning of Sunday's game. He drove in five of the team's six runs on the afternoon. He finished the game 2-for-4 with the home run and five RBIs.
RHP Davis Martin (3-3, 4.06) was saddled with the loss after he allowed just two runs on four hits over four innings. Charlotte LHP Brandon Finnegan allowed the grand slam in the seventh inning to Ockimey.
Lehigh Valley starter Cristopher Sanchez (2-0, 1.80) earned the win for the IronPigs. He allowed just four hits over five shutout innings.
Shortstop Lenyn Sosa added a two-hit game for the Knights, who wrapped up the first half of the season with a 33-57 record.
The Knights will now have four straight off days for the All-Star Break from Monday through Thursday. On Friday, the team will open a three-game series against the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp from Jacksonville, FL.
