SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Jerar Encarnacion swatted a solo home run but the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp couldn't muster any more offense as they fell 3-1 to the Syracuse Mets Sunday afternoon at NBT Bank Stadium.

Syracuse (40-50) took the early lead in the bottom of the first. After two quick outs, Daniel Palka (17) launched a solo home run off Jacksonville (48-42) starter Tommy Eveld (L, 1-2) to put the Mets ahead 1-0.

Syracuse added to their lead in the bottom of the third. Johneshwy Fargas reached on an infield single and advanced to third on a throwing error. Nick Plummer was hit by a pitch and Kramer Robertson singled, scoring Fargas to increase the Mets' lead to 2-0. Palka followed with a single to load the bases and two batters later Nick Dini walked which allowed Plummer to score the third run for the Mets.

Jacksonville cut into the deficit with a run in the top of the fourth. Encarnacion (8) started the inning with a solo home run to cut the deficit to3-1.

The Jumbo Shrimp got a great effort from their bullpen, shutting down the Mets for 5.1 scoreless innings after the third inning. Jordan Holloway, Robert Garcia and George Soriano combined for 5.1 scoreless frames with three hits allowed and just one walk against seven strikeouts.
