Redbirds Drop Final Game at Sounds Before All-Star Break

NASHVILLE, TN - The Memphis Redbirds fell in the series finale to the Nashville Sounds on Sunday afternoon at First Horizon Park by a final score of 10-8.

The Redbirds roared to an early lead, scoring five runs on six hits in the top of the innings, including RBIs from center fielder Ben DeLuzio, shortstop Paul DeJong and first baseman Luken Baker. Memphis would add on in the fifth and sixth thanks to three solo homers. DeJong drilled his 14th homer of the year in the fifth, catcher Clint Coulter and second baseman Delvin Perez cracked back-to-back homers with two outs in the sixth to make the game 8-1.

Matthew Liberatore dominated until the sixth inning in his 11th start of the season with Memphis. The left-hander allowed five runs on the day, four of which came in the sixth inning. All five runs came on three two-out home runs. In total, Liberatore tossed six innings, struck out six batters and walked two while he allowed nine hits.

Nashville went on to score nine unanswered runs to win the game 10-8. Reliever James Naile was credited with the loss after two innings in relief.

The Memphis Redbirds (50-40) now heads into the All-Star Break in third place, 4.5 games behind the Nashville Sounds in the International League West division.
