Worcester Red Sox News Release

NORFOLK, V.A. - The Worcester Red Sox (47-43) earned a series split with the Norfolk Tides (44-46) after a 1-0 loss on Sunday at Harbor Park, entering the All-Star break within two games of first place in the International League East.

Chris Murphy made the start for the WooSox, turning in another strong outing since his promotion to Triple-A in late June. The left-hander tossed five scoreless innings, striking out three while allowing three hits and one walk.

In three outings with Worcester, Murphy has a 3.00 ERA with 14 strikeouts over 18 innings.

The lone run of the ballgame came in the sixth off Geoff Hartlieb, an RBI bloop single by Jacob Nottingham that barely stayed fair down the right field line.

A.J. Politi followed Hartlieb out of the bullpen, delivering two runless innings with a pair of strikeouts.

Offensively, Ronaldo Hernandez doubled for the WooSox' lone extra-base-hit in the ballgame. In 66 games this year, the 24-year-old has a team-leading 20 doubles, a top 10 mark in the International League.

Worcester enters the All-Star break at 47-43, bolstered by a 21-16 record since June 6, a top five record in the league since that date. Including Sunday, the team leads the league in ERA over that 37-game stretch (3.34 ERA across 320.1 innings).

The WooSox are off for the next four days, observing the All-Star break, and return to action on Friday for a three-game series at Polar Park. Worcester faces the Syracuse Mets on Friday at 6:45 p.m., Saturday at 4:05 p.m. and Sunday at 1:05 p.m.-Friday features a presentation of Christmas in July-themed UniBank Fireworks.
