Iowa Cubs News Release

DES MOINES, IA - The Iowa Cubs (40-49) scored five runs in the final two frames to beat the Buffalo Bisons (46-44) by a score of 6-4, Sunday at Principal Park.

Both teams were held off the board until the third, when Buffalo opened the scoring with two runs on an RBI ground out and a sacrifice fly. That was all the runs Luke Farrell would allow, as Iowa's starter went just 2.2 innings.

He was followed by Cayne Ueckert and Michael Rucker who combined to keep the Bisons off the board through 3.1 innings, allowing just two hits. They were matched pitch-for-pitch by Buffalo's starter Casey Lawrence, who spun five innings of two-hit ball.

The I-Cubs got on the board against Buffalo's bullpen in the sixth, when Levi Jordan clubbed an RBI double to cut their deficit in half. Both teams scored two runs in the eighth to bring a 4-3 game into the ninth.

Ben Leeper retired the Bisons in the top half of the inning and down to their final two outs, Dixon Machado knocked an RBI single to tie the game at four. Darius Hill stepped up to the plate next and on the seventh pitch of his at-bat, crushed a two-run home run to give the I-Cubs the win.

POSTGAME NOTES:

- Jackson Frazier recorded an RBI single in the eighth inning, extending his hitting streak to a season-long nine straight games. The outfielder has reached base safely in 14 of his last 15 games.

- Iowa's bullpen allowed just five hits while striking out five over their 6.1 combined innings. They surrendered two unearned runs.

- Darius Hill's walk-off home run marked the first walk-off home run for Iowa since April 11, 2019, when Dixon Machado hit a walk-off against New Orleans. It was Hill's first home run since his first game at Triple-A.

Iowa will take four days off for the All-Star break and come back to action on Friday against the Omaha Storm Chasers. First pitch from Werner Park is scheduled for 7:05 PM. For more information and tickets, visit www.iowacubs.com.
