Durham Bulls News Release
LAWNRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Seven Bulls pitchers combined to set down twenty six of twenty eight batters as they took a perfect game bid into the eighth inning, while second baseman Jonathan Aranda smashed two hits, including a two-run double, and Tristan Gray crushed his team-leading nineteenth home run in Durham's 4-0 two-hit shutout of the Gwinnett Stripers on Sunday afternoon at Coolray Field.
Bulls hurlers Ralph Garza Jr. (3.0 IP, 2 SO), Tommy Romero (1.0 IP, 2 SO), Ben Bowden (1.0 IP, 2 SO), Dalton Moats (1.0 IP, 2 SO), Kyle Muller (1.0 IP), Phoenix Sanders (1.0 IP, H) and Javy Guerra (1.0 IP, H) joined forces for Durham's ninth shutout victory of the year. Romero earned the victory, while Stripers starter Nolan Kingham (3.0 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 2 SO) suffered the defeat.
Garza Jr., Romero, Bowden, Moats and Muller did not allow a baserunner through the first seven innings, retiring each of the first 21 batters faced, before Gwinnett 3B Pat Valaika line a single into center field to lead off the eighth. Valaika would be erased as part of a double play, while the only other Stripers hit would come in the ninth when RF Greyson Jenista doubled to center.
Gray's two-run blast got the Bulls on the board in the second. Aranda's two-run double would later come in the fifth to extend the advantage to four. Aranda (2-4, 2B, 2 RBI, BB) was the only batter from either side to post a multi-hit effort, with seven of nine Durham hitters tallying at least one knock.
The Bulls are off through Thursday, July 21 for the Major League Baseball All-Star Break before returning to action on Friday, July 22 to begin a nine-game homestand at Durham Bulls Athletic Park. Durham's series opener against the Norfolk Tides, the Triple-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, is scheduled for a 6:35pm start time. Starting pitchers for both teams have not yet been announced.
Tickets for that game and all remaining 2022 home dates can be purchased at DurhamBulls.com/tickets.
