Charlotte Knights News Release
(DURHAM, NC) - The Durham Bulls scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning against RHP Bryan Shaw (2-1, 4.94) to go on for a 10-9 win over the Charlotte Knights on Thursday night in game three of the six-game series from Durham Bulls Athletic Park in Durham, NC. The loss was Charlotte's third of the series and sixth straight overall.
Durham jumped out to an early lead against the Knights and starter Nate Fisher. The Bulls scored four runs in the first and three more in the second inning against Fisher, who allowed seven runs (five earned) over just 1.2 innings pitched. He did not factor in the decision.
Offensively, the Knights battled back after trailing 7-0 after the first two innings of the game. Center fielder Clint Frazier put the Knights on the scoreboard with a two-run home run in the top of the third inning.
Two innings later, shortstop Erik González drove home two more runs on a single in the fifth.
One inning later, the Knights continued to battle back and took a lead thanks to a five-run sixth inning. The inning was highlighted by a two-run double off the bat of designated hitter Stephen Piscotty. Thanks to the five-run outburst, the Knights possessed a 9-7 lead into the bottom of the ninth inning.
In the ninth, Shaw came on in relief and had his struggles. The veteran righty was charged with the loss after he allowed all three runs in the final frame of the game. Durham shortstop Osleivis Basabe had the game-winning hit in the bottom of the ninth inning, a two-run walk-off single against Shaw. In all, he allowed three hits, three runs and two walks in the ninth.
The Knights will continue the six-game series against the Durham Bulls (Triple-A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays) on Friday night. The "Voice of the Knights" Matt Swierad will have the call on www.CharlotteKnights.com. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m. from Durham, NC on Friday.
