Manchester Monarchs News Release
LOS ANGELES, CA - The 2012 Stanley Cup Champions Los Angeles Kings, the parent club of the Manchester Monarchs, have activated center Anze Kopitar from the non-roster list and have assigned forward Anthony Stewart to the Monarchs of the American Hockey League, Kings President/General Manager Dean Lombardi announced today. In addition, the Monarchs have signed defenseman Chris Huxley to a professional tryout agreement, Monarchs Director of Hockey Operations Hubie McDonough announced.
Kopitar did not participate in training camp with the Kings. He was placed on the non-roster list on January 18 when the Kings officially set their player roster for the start of this season.
Stewart was acquired by the Kings from the Carolina Hurricanes on January 13. He did not play in the Kings' season opener at STAPLES Center against the Chicago Blackhawks this past Saturday. Stewart has recorded 27 goals and 44 assists for 71 points and 123 penalty minutes in 262 National Hockey League games for the Florida Panthers, Atlanta Thrashers and Hurricanes. Stewart will don No. 21 for the Monarchs.
Huxley, 25, has registered four goals and 21 assists for 25 points and 31 penalty minutes in 41 games for the ECHL's Ontario Reign this season. The Weymouth, Massachusetts native appeared in 69 games for the Reign last season registering six goals and 29 assists for 35 points and 109 penalty minutes in his rookie season. Huxley leads Reign defensemen with 25 points. The 5-foot-11, 202-pound defenseman recorded 42 points (7-35=42) in four seasons (2007-2011) with the NCAA's Harvard University Crimson. In 119 collegiate games over four seasons, Huxley had a plus/minus rating of minus 18. Huxley will don No. 8 with the Monarchs.
The Monarchs will host the Providence Bruins in a 7:00 p.m. contest at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Wednesday, January 23. Catch all the play-by-play action of Monarchs hockey with Ken Cail on the Monarchs Radio Network WGIR 610 AM, WGIR.com and at www.manchestermonarchs.com, presented by Manchester-Boston Regional Airport.
