BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - Following a 4-2 loss to the Sound Tigers in Bridgeport on Saturday, the Binghamton Senators lost their second straight contest tonight as they were defeated by St. John's IceCaps, 3-2.
The B-Sens fell behind at 3:55 of the opening period when the IceCaps capitalized on a power play. Center Maxime Macenauer netted his ninth of the season with helpers from Jason Jaffray and Raymond Sawada.
The B-Sens tied the game at one on a goal by forward Mika Zibanejad, his fourth this season and third in as many games. Stephane Da Costa and Mark Stone drew the assists.
Forward Derek Grant then scored a shorthanded goal, his league-leading fifth of the season and 13th ringer overall, with just 0.5 seconds remaining on the clock in the middle frame to send the B-Sens into intermission with a 2-1 lead.
At 6:26 of the third, the IceCaps evened the score as forward Kael Mouillierat, assisted by Eric O'Dell and Derek Meech, scored his third goal of the season. The game was put out Binghamton's reach at 9:35 when Jason Gregoire put away his seventh of the year, to put the IceCaps back out on top 3-2.
Nathan Lawson came away with the loss in net for the B-Sens despite making 36 saves. For the IceCaps, Eddie Pasquale stopped 32 of 34 shots on goal to earn the victory.
The B-Sens see action again on Friday, Jan. 25, as they travel to Syracuse to face the Crunch. Fans can listen live on "Binghamton's Classic Hits" BIG 107.5 (WBBI-FM) beginning 15 minutes before game time as Grady Whittenburg, the voice of the B-Sens, hosts the Countdown to Faceoff.
