September 6, 2009 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Cedar Rapids Kernels News Release

The Cedar Rapids Kernels took the second game of a three game set with the Burlington Bees by the score of 5-3 in a game that featured a combined seven errors by the two teams. Alexi Amarista went 2-3 with a double and run scored as Beau Brooks, Angel Castillo and Jean Almanzar each added an RBI.

Chris Armstrong (3-2) picked up the win in relief of Kernels starter Christian Scholl. Scholl didn't allow a hit and struck out six over 3 IP and Armstrong allowed a hit, walked one and struck out two over three innings. Burlington starter Manauris Baez (8-6) allowed five runs (two earned) on seven hits, walked four and struck out two over five innings.

Johnny Hellweg started the ninth inning for the Kernels and ran into some trouble as the bases were loaded with two out. A ground ball to Almanzar, who took over for Amarista at second, should've ended the game, but Almanzar's flip to Rolando Gomez covering second was errant and allowed two unearned runs to cut the lead to 5-3. Hellweg got the next batter out to preserve the Kernels victory.
