TinCaps Shut Down Whitecaps Again

COMSTOCK PARK, MI- Five runs in the first three innings led the Fort Wayne Tincaps to a 6-0 shutout of the West Michigan Whitecaps on Sunday afternoon at Fifth Third Ballpark. Four Tincaps' pitchers combine to blank the Whitecaps on five hits. Fort Wayne has now won the first two games of the three-game series.

Vince Belnome continues to wear out West Michigan. The Tincaps' third baseman drove home the game's first run in the first inning with a triple off the left field wall.

In the third, Belnome came through with a two-out, two-run single to up the lead to 3-0 Fort Wayne. Two batters later, Allan Dykstra delivered a clutch hit of his own with a two-run double to put the Tincaps in front, 5-0.

Fort Wayne would add to its lead in the sixth with an RBI single from Kevin Hansen. Hansen dumped a flare into shallow right to plate Robert Lara for Fort Wayne's sixth run.

Whitecaps' starter Rob Waite takes the loss throwing four innings, allowing 4 hits and 5 earned runs. Waite walked 4 and struck out four.

Former University of Michigan product Chris Fetter held the 'Caps scoreless through 5 innings to earn his second win. Fetter surrendered 4 hits, walked 1 and struck out three. Rob Musgrave, Alexi Lara, and Brad Brach continued the shutout in relief.

Bryan Pounds was the only Whitecap with multiple hits; he was 2-4.

Vince Belnome led the hitting attack for Fort Wayne going 3-5 with 3 RBI.

The finale of the series and the last game of the regular season is Monday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. ET at Fifth Third Ballpark.
