
Bees Lose To Even Series with Kernels

Cedar Rapids, IA (September 6, 2009) - The Burlington Bees are down to one game remaining in the regular season after losing to Cedar Rapids 5-3 Sunday night. The Bees committed five errors in the game with the loss evening the series at a game apiece going into Monday's series finale.
Cedar Rapids scored the first five runs of the ballgame. In the third inning, they scored two runs and then took a 5-0 lead scoring three more runs in the fifth inning. In each of those innings, the Bees committed two errors and only two of those five runs were earned.
The Bees scored their first run of the night in the seventh inning. Jason Taylor led the inning off with a base-hit and then stole second. Taylor then scored after back-to-back wild pitches moved him to third and then home. In the bottom of the ninth inning, the Bees scored the final two runs of the game. With one out, Shawn Griffin and Jose Bonilla hit back-to-back singles. After the second out was recorded, Yeldrys Molina walked to load the bases. Hilton Richardson then reached on a Fielder's Choice. On that play, an error was committed, which scored two runs and got the Bees within two runs. The Bees could not get any more runs on the board after that.
Manauris Baez got the start and took the loss to move to 8-6 on the season. In five innings of work, he allowed five runs, two of which were earned, on seven hits with two strikeouts and four walks. Ivor Hodgson pitched one shutout inning allowing one hit. It was the final tune-up for Hodgson, who will start game one of the playoffs for the Bees. Blaine Hardy pitched two no-hit innings with two strikeouts and no walks.
The Bees were outhit 8-6. Taylor was the only Bee with more than one hit going 2-4 with a run scored. The Bees were 1-12 with runners on in scoring position and had no RBI. The Bees committed five errors in the game.
The Bees conclude the series at Cedar Rapids on Monday. Sam Runion is the scheduled starter with first pitch scheduled for 2:05.
