Durham Bulls News Release
JACKSONVILLE, FL - Bulls first baseman Dalton Kelly smashed a home run in his fourth consecutive contest while starting pitcher Tobias Myers fired six quality innings in Durham's 5-1 victory over the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp on Wednesday evening at 121 Financial Field.
Durham got the scoring started in the opening inning with CF Vidal Brujan coming across on a Jumbo Shrimp error before LF Nathan Lukes came plateward on 2B Esteban Quiroz's sacrifice fly. Two frames later, Kelly crushed a two-run opposite-field shot to left for his 25th homer of the year, tying him for most in the Triple-A East League. Lukes would make it 5-0 in the fourth with an RBI single before Jacksonville ended the Bulls' shutout hopes with a single score in the sixth.
Myers (6.0 IP, 3 H, R, ER, 0 BB, 4 K) fired a quality start to earn his second victory with the Bulls. Durham relievers Phoenix Sanders (1.0 IP, H, 2 BB, 2 K), Louis Head (1.0 IP, K) and Ryan Sherriff (1.0 IP, H) fired the final three scoreless frames to preserve the victory, while Jumbo Shrimp right-hander Nick Neidert (5.0 IP, 8 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 0 BB, 4 K) suffered the defeat.
The Bulls and Jumbo Shrimp are scheduled to face off again on Thursday night, with first pitch scheduled for 7:05pm. Durham's starter has not yet been announced, while LHP Shawn Morimando (3-4, 4.44) is slated to toe the rubber for Jacksonville.
The Bulls return home on Tuesday, September 7 for their penultimate homestand of the year, facing off against the Norfolk Tides for seven tilts. Start time for that series' opener is set for 6:35pm. Tickets for that game, as well as all remaining Bulls home games are available and can be purchased at DurhamBulls.com.
