Kane County Cougars News Release

Homestand Notes

Seven-game homestand kicks off Saturday: The Cougars open a seven-game homestand beginning Saturday at 6 p.m. against the Burlington Bees.

Numerous theme nights are part of the upcoming stretch of games at Elfstrom Stadium, beginning with JIMMY BUFFETT THEME DAY on Sunday, August 1. The 1 p.m. game will have a tropical theme from start to finish with pre-game Buffett music filling the stadium at noon when the gates open. The ballpark décor will have a tropical theme as well. Cougars players will get into the act by wearing commemorative tropical jerseys. Following the game, fans can come onto the field for a concert by Daryl Durano and his Country Caribbean Band.

The Cougars will host a TROOPS AND VETS NIGHT the following evening, on Monday, August 2. Sponsored by Cantigny, the event will help raise funds for three non-profit groups that benefit veterans: Honor Flight Chicago, Operation Support Our Troops Illinois, and Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans. Military vehicles will be displayed inside the stadium for fans to view, and Cougars players will be wearing commemorative patriotic jerseys.

Ozzie's 20th BIRTHDAY BASH takes place on Thursday, August 5. Several of Ozzie's mascot friends will be on hand to celebrate his birthday, including Skates from the Chicago Wolves and Grabowski from the Chicago Rush, among others. Ozzie and his friends will participate in several between-innings contests and dances, and the evening will conclude with a fireworks show.

Ticket specials: Kids 10 and under will receive a free box, reserved or lawn seat ticket for the following games: Sunday August 1, Tuesday August 3 and Wednesday August 4. Fans can take advantage of $1 hot dogs on Tuesday August 3 and Wednesday August 4. Fans can receive a free box, reserved, or lawn seat ticket when purchasing more than four on Thursday August 5 and Friday August 6.

Team Notes

Playoff Update: The Cougars still hold the top spot among Western Division teams still clamoring for a playoff berth. Despite having the third-best record in the division, the Cougars technically hold the division lead, being that the next two highest teams - Quad Cities and Cedar Rapids - already clinched playoff spots in the season's first half. Breathing down the Cougars' backs are Wisconsin (2 games behind the Cougars) and Clinton (2.5 games behind the Cougars). While the Cougars have reached the playoffs five times since becoming an A's affiliate in 2003, they've never had to rely on a second half division championship or wild card to earn a playoff berth.

A's Acorns: Dallas Braden ('04 Cougar), who won this past weekend against the White Sox, recorded his first win for the A's since his perfect game this past spring...The Cougars' parent club have won four series in a row, and nine of their past 11 games. That four-series win streak is Oakland's longest since it took five straight in May-June 2007. The A's have taken series from the Angels, Royals, Red Sox and White Sox...outfielder Travis Buck ('05) is currently in a rehab assignment with Triple-A Sacramento...pitcher Tyson Ross ('08) has thrown 10 shutout innings in his two starts since moving from Oakland to Sacramento...infielder Jemile Weeks ('08) recently resumed his season at Double-A Midland after being sidelined for two months with a hip injury.

Cougars In The Community: Ozzie T. Cougar is scheduled to make upcoming appearances in the community at the following locations:

Saturday, July 31 from 9-10 a.m. - Kickers Soccer Club (Aurora)

Saturday, August 7 from 11 a.m.-Noon - Project Unity Back to School Fair (Aurora)
