Lansing Lugnuts News Release

LANSING, Mich. - Allen Webster combined with three relievers to twirl a five-hit shutout, as the first place Great Lakes Loons (25-6; 68-32) topped the second place Lansing Lugnuts (17-14; 53-47), 3-0, on Wednesday night on Jackson Field.

The Lugnuts stranded 12 runners on base in the game, leaving the bases loaded in both the third and eighth innings.

Webster (10-6) became the first Midwest League pitcher to 10 victories, scattering three singles and four walks while striking out four.

Reliever Andy Suiter followed with five strikeouts while working the seventh and eighth innings. Steve Ames pitched the ninth for his ninth save.

Lugnuts starter Dave Sever (4-7) suffered the loss, despite whiffing seven batters in six innings. The former Saint Louis Billiken was reached for Brian Cavazos-Galvez's sacrifice fly and J.T. Wise's RBI single in the first inning and Chris Jacobs' RBI double in the fourth.

A pair of streaks ended in the game for Lansing: both Kevin Ahrens and A.J. Jimenez went 0-for-4, snapping Ahrens' 12-game hitting streak and Jimenez's 17-game on-base streak.

Lansing sends right-hander Ryan Tepera (9-4, 3.14) to the mound on a '90s Night-themed Labatt Blue Light Thirsty Thursday, with game time 7:05 p.m.

Great Lakes' starter is TBD, due to the Dodgers including scheduled starting pitcher Elisaul Pimentel in a trade for Kansas City outfielder Scott Podsednik. The news broke in the middle of the game, with Pimentel heading down to the Loons bullpen where teammates lined up to hug the right-hander and wish him well.
