Dragons Rally Comes up Short in 5-3 Loss

Dayton, Ohio-Bowling Green starting pitcher Kyle Lobstein and two relievers combined to allow just six hits as the Hot Rods defeated the Dayton Dragons 5-3 on Wednesday night before a crowd of 8,109 at Fifth Third Field.

The Dragons had the tying run at first base with one out in the bottom of the ninth when both Jonathan Kaskow and Josh Garton hit long fly balls that were caught on the warning track. Garton's drive was caught with a leaping grab against the fence by center fielder Ty Morrison to end the game.

Bowling Green took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning before the Dragons collected three hits in the second to tie the game. Frank Pfister's two-out single drove in Cameron Satterwhite from second.

After Bowling Green regained the lead in the top of the third, the Dragons took the lead in the bottom of the inning. After a Didi Gregorius single, Satterwhite blasted a two-run home run to left field to make it 3-2. It was Satterwhite's seventh homer of the season.

But Bowling Green plated three runs in the sixth inning to take back the lead. Julio Cedeno's RBI single tied the game and with two outs, Ty Morrison lined a two-run double to the right field corner to make it 5-3.

Dragons starting pitcher Justin Walker worked the first six innings, allowing nine hits and five runs with one walk and three strikeouts as he took the loss and fell to 3-10.

The Dragons collected six hits. Satterwhite was 2 for 3 with a homer, single, and walk to lead the way.

The Dragons (8-22) host the Hot Rods (14-17) again on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. at Fifth Third Field. Tim Crabbe (2-2, 3.23) will start for Dayton against Bowling Green's Albert Suarez (0-3, 4.15). The home stand concludes on Friday at 7:00. Friday's game will be televised on WHIO Digital Channel 7.2 (Time Warner Basic Cable channel 23). Former Reds infielder Chris Sexton, a star at St. Xavier High School who went on to begin the all-time career batting leader at Miami University, will provide color commentary.
