July 28, 2010 - Midwest League (MWL1)
South Bend Silver Hawks News Release
Fort Wayne, IN - Ender Inciarte came in to Wednesday morning's game in Fort Wayne hitting .161 and hadn't homered since August 27, 2009. However, Inciarte led the Silver Hawks to a 4-3 victory over the TinCaps at Parkview Field with three RBIs, including two on a homer with two outs and two strikes in the ninth.
The Silver Hawks previously had a runner on third with less than two outs and didn't score twice, and it looked as if the same would happen in the ninth. David Narodowski struck out with pinch runner Victor Estevez at third and one away before Inciarte's blast off Nick Schumacher (LP, 4-5). Inciarte went 3-for-4 on the afternoon and also had a RBI triple in the third to start the game's scoring.
Yonata Ortega (SV, 22) set the TinCaps down in order in the ninth for his league-leading 22nd save. Chris Odegaard (WP, 5-0) kept the Silver Hawks within reach by tossing a scoreless eighth to earn the victory. Randy Rodriguez (ND) also turned in a good relief appearance, allowing only a walk in 2.0 innings.
David Nick homered off Fort Wayne starter Matt Lollis (ND) in the sixth and went 2-for-4 to continue his hot hitting. Narodowski was 2-for-3 with a walk, increasing his batting average in July to .400.
With the game tied 1-1 in the fourth, the TinCaps scored two runs against South Bend starter Andrew Wolcott (ND) to give them a lead that would hold until the ninth. Wolcott hit Nate Freiman with a pitch to lead off the inning and walked Jedd Gyorko on four pitches. Edinson Rincon singled to score Freiman before Daniel Meeley drove home Gyorko to put Fort Wayne up 3-1.
After Inciarte's RBI triple in the third, Fort Wayne responded to tie the game in the bottom half. Dean Anna singled with one out and advanced to third on a base hit by Danny Payne. Jeudy Valdez grounded in to a fielder's choice that drove home Anna and tied the game at one.
The Silver Hawks continue the three-game series against the Fort Wayne TinCaps (San Diego Padres) on Thursday night at 7:05 PM. RHP Scottie Allen (3-3, 5.02 ERA) will take the mound for South Bend while Fort Wayne sends LHP Mike Watt (4-4, 3.49 ERA) to the hill. Pregame coverage begins at 6:45 PM Eastern Time on 1620 ESPN Radio and online at www.silverhawks.com .
