Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
TOLEDO, Ohio - Left-hander Jake Kalish struck out a season-high seven batters but allowed three solo home runs and the Omaha Storm Chasers fell, 3-0, to the Toledo Mud Hens on Saturday at Fifth Third Field. It was the fourth shutout loss of the season for Omaha (44-31). The Storm Chasers finished the month of July with a 12-14 record in 26 games, the team's first losing month of the season.
Kalish (Loss, 1-3) retired the first seven batters of the game, including five on five consecutive strikeouts, before allowing a solo home run to JaCoby Jones in the third inning. He yielded back-to-back home runs to Renato Nuñez and Kody Clemens in the fourth inning.
Toledo (43-32) right-hander Mark Leiter Jr. (Win, 5-0), right-hander Jason Foley, and right-hander Will Vest (Save, 1) combined to shut out the Chasers, striking out 10 and walking two while allowing five hits. Leiter Jr. tossed 6.0 shutout innings, striking out seven, walking two, and allowing four hits.
Omaha left seven runners on base, including stranding runners on first and second in the fourth inning. After first baseman Nick Pratto doubled to lead off the inning and right-fielder Ryan McBroom walked to give the Chasers runners on first and second with nobody out, Leiter Jr. retired the next three to end the threat.
The Chasers recorded three doubles in the game, including one from centerfielder Kyle Isbel to extend his on-base streak to 17 games.
Defensively, both Isbel and McBroom recorded outfield assists by throwing a runner out at third base.
The Storm Chasers conclude their six-game series against the Toledo Mud Hens on Sunday at Fifth Third Field in Toledo, Ohio, when right-hander Brandon Barker (0-1, 7.53) faces Toledo right-hander Ricardo Pinto (6-1, 4.17). First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. CT and coverage begins at 5:45 p.m. CT with the Sarpy County Tourism Pregame Show on 1180 The Zone.
