Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders fell to the Syracuse Mets 5-3 on Saturday night at NBT Bank Stadium.
The RailRiders took the lead three batters into the game against Trevor Williams, who was making his Mets organizational debut. With one out, Kyle Holder legged out an infield single and scored on an Andrew Velazquez two-run home run.
Velazquez finished the night 1-for-4 at the plate with a home run, and his two RBIs improved his team-leading total to 42 on the season and placing him in the top 10 in Triple-A East.
Syracuse answered back in the bottom of the first by hitting three home runs against Deivi Garcia to take a 4-2 lead. Garcia (2-4) lasted only 1.0 inning, allowing four runs on six hits and walking one. It was the second straight start in which the right-hander allowed three home runs, a career high.
Nick Green followed Garcia with 3.0 scoreless innings of relief, allowing only one hit and one walk while striking out four. Adam Warren allowed one run on four hits in 1.0-plus innings of work, and Greg Weissert kept the Mets off the board in his 3.0 innings of work.
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre clawed back in the top of the seventh against Roel Ramirez. Max McDowell led off with a double and scored two batters later on a Cristian Perez groundout to cut the deficit to 5-3.
The RailRiders threatened but did not score in the top of the eighth, and went down 1-2-3 in the ninth to fall to the Mets for the second straight night.
