Louisville Bats News Release
Des Moines, Iowa. - Michael De Leon capped off a multi-hit effort with an insurance RBI double in the eighth to give the Bats' a 4-2 win in Game 1, but an extra-inning walkoff from Iowa's Alfonso Rivas nulled seven shutout frames from Bo Takahashi as the Louisville Bats split a doubleheader with the Iowa Cubs Saturday night.
Reds' rehabber Lucas Sims served as the Bats' opener on Friday, recording two strikeouts in the first before handing the ball to Michael Mariot. Mariot fanned three over 3.0 of work, allowing two earned runs on two hits and a walk before the suspension of the contest due to inclement weather.
The trio of Alejo Lopez, TJ Friedl and Jose Barrero led the offensive charge Friday with an RBI apiece. Lopez and Friedl each plated a run in the first, while Barrero connected on his team-high seventh home run of the season with a solo shot in the third.
Barrero has now recorded a hit in 14 of his last 15 contests.
Louisville handled the ball to Tim Adleman to resume play on Saturday. Adleman struck out two and allowed one hit over 2.0 innings, before Brandon Finnegan and Phillip Diehl combined to work the final 3.0 shutout frames.
*Game 2 starter Bo Takahashi authored 7.0 shutout frames, navigating the lone trouble he faced in home half of the seventh when he induced a lineout and Braxton Lee cut down the potential winning run at the plate. The right-hander finished with five strikeouts, three hits and five walks, while contributing one of Louisville's three hits with a base hit in the fifth. He has recorded at least five strikeouts in five out of his last six starts. *
The Bats' scored their lone run on an Alejo Lopez sacrifice fly in extras, but Alfonso Rivas responded in the home half of the eighth, connecting on a double to right field off Louisville's Cionel Perez to plate two and give Iowa the 2-1 win in Game 2.
The two teams will return to Principal Park Sunday for a series finale at 2:08 ET. RHP Riley O'Brien (4-5, 4.41) will take the mound for Louisville, while Iowa has yet to name its starter.
