Kalamazoo Wings News Release
Kalamazoo made their first-ever visit to the Sears Centre last Wednesday (11/29) to face-off against the Chicago Hounds. In the first contest since losing 4-1 on home ice to Quad City, the K-Wings took out their frustrations on the Hounds. First period tallies from Chris McAllister (2) and Nick Bootland (11) would be all Kalamazoo needed in a 9-1 thrashing of Chicago. Justin Cross (9,10,11) led all K-Wing goal scorers while recording the first Kalamazoo hat trick of the season. Recently acquired Glenn Detulleo dished out three assists for his most productive game as a member of the K-Wings. Special teams also proved huge for Kalamazoo as the K-Wings pumped in four power play goals and added one shorthanded goal in the victory.
The K-Wings wrapped up their abbreviated two-game road swing Saturday (12/2) night with a battle against the Muskegon Fury at the L.C. Walker Arena. The Fury's Phillipe Plante (6) scored the first goal of the night with just 20 seconds remaining in the first period to give Muskegon a 1-0 lead. Kalamazoo bounced back in the second after Shawn Snider (4) cashed in on his own rebound for the lone goal in the period. Muskegon went ahead early in the third after a goal from Dave Noel-Bernier (5). Kalamazoo showed no signs of backing down after Bootland scored his team-leading 13th goal of the season. A minute and seven seconds after Bootland knotted the game up, Glenn Detulleo (3) capitalized on a two-man advantage by scoring the eventual game-winning goal, his first goal as a member of the K-Wings. Tom Askey knocked aside 28 shots to earn his 10th win of the season as Kalamazoo skated away with a 3-2 victory over Muskegon.
Fast Forward
Kalamazoo opens up the week with a game on Friday (12/8), at 7:30 p.m., their first home game in twelve days, against the Bloomington PrairieThunder. In the teams' only previous encounter, the K-Wings defeated the PrairieThunder 3-0 on November 19th at Wings Stadium. Bloomington starts the week in fifth place in the Western Conference with 12 points.
The K-Wings continue their two-game home stand at 7:30 p.m. with a visit from the Flint Generals on Saturday (12/9). Kalamazoo defeated the Generals in their last meeting on November 25th in Flint by a score of 4-3. With a record of 2-1-0, the K-Wings lead the season series over the Generals. Flint is in 4th place in the Eastern Conference with a record of 8-12-2 (18 points). Saturday's game also coincides with "Cup Craze".
