
UHL names players of the week

LAKE ST. LOUIS, MO--- The United Hockey League (UHL) announced Monday that Flint Generals right wing Mike Kinnie has been named Sher-Wood UHL Player of the Week and Kalamazoo Wings goaltender Tom Askey has been named Southern Sports Supply UHL Goaltender of the Week for the period ending Sunday, December 3rd, 2006.
Kinnie completed the week with five points (4g, 1a) and a plus-3 rating in three games played. He was signed earlier in the week and scored two goals in his season debut with the club during Friday's 5-3 loss to Rockford. He tallied three points (2g, 1a), including the game-winning goal, in Sunday's 4-3 win vs. Rockford. The 24-year-old native of Shelby Township, Michigan is in his third season with the Generals. He scored 47 points (24g, 23a) in 36 games during the 2005-06 season. Kinnie was selected to the UHL All-Rookie Team in 2004-05 after scoring 81 points (37g, 44a) in 72 games.
Other players nominated for the Sher-Wood UHL Player of the Week include: Bloomington forward Alex Goupil, Chicago center Mike Brolsma, Elmira right wing Yevgeny Lazarev, Fort Wayne center Bruce Richardson, Kalamazoo left wing Nick Bootland, Muskegon left wing David Noel-Bernier, Port Huron forward Mike Olynyk, Quad City forward Don Parsons, and Rockford center Kevin Ulanski.
Askey finished the week with a 2-0-0 record, a 1.50 goals against average (GAA), and a .950 save percentage (SPCT). He made 29 saves in the 9-1 victory vs. Chicago on Wednesday. He then made 28 saves in the 3-2 win vs. Muskegon on Saturday to record his third consecutive victory and tenth win of the season. The 32-year-old native of Tonawanda, New York currently ranks third among UHL goaltenders with a 2.16 GAA and a .928 SPCT. Askey continues to lead UHL netminders with three shutouts. It is the second weekly honor for him this season after earning the award following the first week of the 2006-07 campaign.
Other goaltenders nominated for the Southern Sports Supply UHL Goaltender of the Week include: Bloomington's Jeff Reynaert, Chicago's Marty Magers, Elmira's Kris Tebbs, Flint's Jason Muzzatti, Fort Wayne's Kevin St. Pierre, Muskegon's Clayton Pool, Port Huron's Dustin Traylen, Quad City's Jason Tapp, and Rockford's Frederic Cloutier.
