FLORENCE FREEDOM (21-26) @ WASHINGTON WILD THINGS (30-19)

Saturday, July 12, - 7:05 p.m. ET

CONSOL Energy Park - Washington, PA

Game #48 - Road Game #19 (21-26), (5-13)

LHP #41 Peter Gehle (3-2, 3.19 ERA) vs. RHP #27 Tyler Elrod (0-0, 5.02 ERA)

Last time out...

Down 3-0 on Friday and facing Washington closer Jonathan Kountis in the top of the ninth, the Freedom got the first three batters on base. Sam Eberle and Joe Staley drew walks. Chance Ross hit a blooper that fell in to center field for a hit, loading the bases. Ryan Solberg delivered a sacrifice fly, scoring Eberle and moving everyone else up 90 feet. Down 3-1, Rob Kelly singled through the hole on the right side. Staley scored to make it 3-2 but Ross pulled up lame rounding third base and hobbled back to the bag. With no more bench options, manager Fran Riordan was forced to pinch run for Ross at third with back-up catcher Gaby Juarbe. Ben Kline hit a high chopper to third and Juarbe was thrown out at the plate trying to score on the play. With runners at first and second, Michael Wilson flew out to end the game as the Freedom fell one run short. Casey Henn (3-4) took the loss.

For Starters...

Peter Gehle makes his 10th start of the season tonight and his second against the Washington Wild Things. Gehle's most recent start came against Washington on July 6 and he got the victory in a 12-3 Freedom win. Gehle went six and two thirds innings, scattering seven hits and giving up three runs while walking one and striking out three. Gehle, 26, is a former 27th round draft pick of the Chicago White Sox in 2010 out of Azusa Pacific University. The Flagstaff, Arizona native spent two years in the White Sox organization before joining Sioux Falls of the American Association in 2012. He spent 2013 in the AA as well, this time with the Winnipeg Goldeyes.

Low scoring...

Yesterday's 3-2 loss was the 16th time the Freedom have scored fewer than three runs in a game. They are 1-15 in such games. When the Freedom score three or more runs they have a record of 20-11.

Where's the relief?!

The Freedom's bullpen ERA has gone up each month; 1.59 in May, 4.50 in June and now 5.04 in July.

Wild success...

The Freedom have a 5-2 record against the Wild Things this season. In addition, Freedom manager Fran Riordan is 26-5 against Washington manager Bart Zeller in his career. This is the first time the Freedom have visited Washington in 2014.

Road woes...

Florence is 5-13 away from UC Health Stadium and they have not won a road series yet on the season, dropping all six series they have played on the road.

Excellent Eberle...

All-Star Sam Eberle leads the Freedom in On-Base Percentage at .439. He also leads the team in multiple hit games with 15.

One is good, six is bad...

The Freedom have out-scored opponents 37-20 in the first inning this season. It's the most runs they've scored in a particular inning this season and their largest positive run differential in an inning. However, they have been out-scored by a count of 32-17 in the sixth inning this season, their largest negative run differential of any inning.

Walk this way...

All-Star Joe Staley leads the team and is tied for third in the Frontier League in walks with 35.

Hey now, you're an All-Star!

Outfielder Cole Miles, catcher Joe Staley and RHP Chuck Weaver were named Frontier League All-Stars on Monday. Miles and Staley will start for the east division in the July 16 game in Sauget, IL. Infielder Sam Eberle was named to the east division All-Star squad on Thursday by manager Bart Zeller.

Transaction Wire...

Catcher Orrin Sears retired yesterday. The Freedom activated catcher Gaby Juarbe from the 7-Day DL.
