Washington Wild Things News Release

Washington, PA - The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Financial, meat of the order provided the final blow as Washington defeated the Florence Freedom 5-4 Saturday at CONSOL Energy Park.

RBI singles delivered by Freedom outfielders Cole Miles and Adam Taylor gave the visitors a 3-0 advantage through three and a third innings until outfielder Stewart Ijames put the Wild Things on the scoreboard with his league-tying 15th blast of the year, 3-1.

An inning later, Things second baseman Sam Montgomery, who had a spectacular diving grab in the top of the first inning, hit an RBI single to cut the deficit 4-2. Wild Things shortstop Garrett Rau followed with a RBI double to plate Montgomery and make it a 4-3 ballgame. The next hitter, CJ Beatty, hit the go-ahead two-run home run, making it his 11th homerun of the season, for a 5-4 Wild Things lead.

A double play put out by the Wild Things defense and a strikeout to the last Freedom hitter of the night Michael Wilson in the top of the ninth earned Jonathan Kountis his league-leading 19th save. Kountis's save also ties former Washington closer DJ Barsa for the franchises most single season save record as the accomplishment was last done in 2004.
