Josh Smith Lifts Dragons to Win in Opener

Fort Wayne, Ind.-Josh Smith fired six shutout innings to lead the Dayton Dragons to a 5-0 victory over the Fort Wayne TinCaps in the first game of a doubleheader on Tuesday evening. The win lifted the Dragons to 32-32 on the season going into the second game of the twin-bill.

Smith (7-3) lowered his earned run average to 1.59 over 13 starts with the win. He allowed just four men to reach base over six innings. Smith struck out seven and walked no one while giving up four hits.

The Dragons scored three runs in the first inning and two more in the second to build an early 5-0 lead. Billy Hamilton led off the game with a triple and keyed the Dragons attack. Hamilton was 2 for 4 and scored two runs. He also added his 51st stolen base of the year. Dominic D'Anna was 2 for 3 with an RBI. Devin Lohman also drove in two runs for Dayton.
