Dayton Dragons News Release

Fort Wayne, Ind.-Josh Smith fired six shutout innings to lead the Dayton Dragons to a 5-0 victory over the Fort Wayne TinCaps in the first game of a doubleheader on Tuesday evening, and the Dragons came from behind to win 4-2 in the second game to complete a sweep. The wins lifted the Dragons to 33-32 on the season with five games to play in the first-half season.

Smith (7-3) lowered his earned run average to 1.59 over 13 starts with the win. He allowed just four men to reach base over six innings. Smith struck out seven and walked no one while giving up four hits.

The Dragons scored three runs in the first inning and two more in the second to build an early 5-0 lead. Billy Hamilton led off the game with a triple and keyed the Dragons attack. Hamilton was 2 for 4 and scored two runs. He also added his 51st stolen base of the year. Dominic D'Anna was 2 for 3 with an RBI. Devin Lohman also drove in two runs for Dayton.

In game two, Dayton trailed 2-1 after five innings but tied the game in the sixth when Yorman Rodriguez scored from third on David Vidal's fielder's choice. The Dragons broke the tie in the seventh when Theo Bowe singled, stole second, and scored on an error. Later in the inning, Rodriguez delivered a two-out bunt single to bring in Hamilton from third to make it 4-2.

Drew Hayes pitched a scoreless bottom of the seventh inning for his seventh save. The victory was credited to Pat Doyle (4-2), who worked two scoreless innings of relief.

Dragons starting pitcher Kyle Lotzkar, battling back from injuries that have caused him to miss most of the past two and one-half seasons, made his return to the Dragons for the first time since suffering an elbow injury while with Dayton in 2008. Lotzkar started the game and worked four innings, allowing four hits and two earned runs with two walks and eight strikeouts.

Dayton (33-32) will play at Fort Wayne (28-36) again on Wednesday in the third game of the four-game series. Daniel Corcino (7-3, 2.77) will start for the Dragons.

The Dragons next home game is Friday, June 17 vs. the Lansing Lugnuts. The Dragons consecutive game sell-out streak stands at 805, nine short of the all-time sports record.
