Silver Hawks Skid Reaches Four

South Bend Silver Hawks News Release
Lansing, MI - A 6-1 loss to the Lansing Lugnuts on Tuesday night at Cooley Law School Stadium has put the South Bend Silver Hawks' playoff chances on life support and also tied the team's longest losing streak of the season at four.
The Silver Hawks could be mathematically eliminated if the Bowling Green Hot Rods hold on to win Tuesday night, but more importantly, the team is trying to right the ship after dropping six of their past seven games. The latest setback occurred Tuesday, when J.R. Bradley (LP, 2-9) was touched up for six runs (four earned) in four innings. Meanwhile, the offense was blanked for six innings by Lansing starter Drew Hutchinson (WP, 5-2).
Markus Brisker provided the fireworks for Lansing, with a solo home run to start the bottom of the first and then a two run double in the bottom of the fourth inning to break the game open. A passed ball and a fielding error helped Lansing build a 6-0 lead and chased Bradley from the game.
South Bend managed just six hits on the night - three belonging to outfielder Roberto Rodriguez. The lone run scored when Matt Helm was hit by a pitch, moved to second on a groundout, took third on a balk, and scored on a RBI groundout from Chris Jarrett in the seventh against a Lansing reliever.
Oddly, the team tied their season high with 13 strikeouts in the game, led by reliever Keith Cantwell (ND) who struck out six of the seven batters that he faced. Eury De La Rosa (ND) also had two scoreless innings of relief for the Silver Hawks.
Mike Freeman's 15 game hitting streak came to a close as well on Tuesday, as he went 0-for-4 on the night.
The two teams continue the three game series at 7:05 PM Eastern Time on Wednesday at Cooley Law School Stadium. LHP David Holmberg (6-3, 2.87 ERA) will put his 21.0 consecutive scoreless innings on the line against Lansing's LHP Sean Nolin (1-1, 3.49 ERA). Pregame coverage begins at 6:45 PM Eastern Time on www.sportsjuice.com and www.silverhawks.com.
