Quad Cities River Bandits News Release

Carlos Martinez (3-2) set the tone on the mound for the Bandits with eight strikeouts over six shutout innings on his way to his second straight win. Meanwhile, the offense did their job aided by three-hit games from both Michael Swinson (3-for-4), and Colin Walsh (3-for-4). The Bandits went on to win the series opener with the Clinton LumberKings 5-0 on Tuesday night.

The River Bandits opened their scoring in the third with three runs. Swinson and Ronny Gil both came around to score on a passed ball while an error on the same play set up a sac fly that would score Oscar Taveras.

The Bandits went on to tack on single runs in the fourth and sixth innings. Nick Longmire (2-for-4) also had a multi-hit game including one of two River Bandit extra-base hits. He also scored a pair of runs.

Ryan Copeland and Cale Johnson combined to work the final three innings of the shutout. Copeland fanned three over two innings while Johnson added a pair of K's over a scoreless ninth.

Though only three of the Bandits' five runs were earned, all were charged to Clinton starter George Meises (1-8) who ended up taking the loss.

Quad Cities and Clinton will continue their three-game set Wednesday night in Clinton when the River Bandits send right-hander Seth Blair (3-3, 4.54) to the mound opposite lefty Edlando Seco (1-0, 5.73). First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m.
