Johnston's Five RBIs Carry Jacksonville to Seventh Straight Victory

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Ryan Weathers pitched 6.0 innings of one-run ball and Troy Johnston homered, collected three hits and drove in five runs to lead the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp to a 6-2 win in Friday night's contest against the Norfolk Tides in front of 5,151 fans at 121 Financial Ballpark.

Tied 1-1 with Norfolk (68-42, 20-17), Jacksonville (53-57, 21-15) took the lead in the bottom of the fifth frame. With one out, Garrett Hampson singled. Johnston (4) followed by ripping a two-run shot off Tides reliever DL Hall (1-2) to give the Jumbo Shrimp a 3-1 advantage.

Weathers (1-0) pitched 6.0 innings, allowing only one run on three hits. He struck out six. Jeff Lindgren came in relief throwing 2.0 hitless inning. Geoff Hartlieb earned his seventh save as the Jumbo Shrimp clinched their first series at home since April.

Griffin Conine led off the seventh frame with a single, and in the next at bat, Jake Mangum was hit by a pitch. With no outs, Hampson laid down a sacrifice bunt. A throwing error on the play allowed Conine to score, leaving two runners in scoring position. Johnston then singled, plating Mangum and Hampson to give the Jumbo Shrimp a 6-1 lead.

The Tides got back a run in the top of the ninth inning. With one out, Aaron Hicks, Heston Kjerstad and Joey Ortiz each singled to load the bases. Following a strike out, Cameron walked to force in a run.

Norfolk got on the board early. Daz Cameron (15) homered to give the Tides a one-run lead in the top of the second inning.

Jacksonville answered in the bottom of the third frame. Conine ripped a base knock with one down. Following a force out, Johnston singled, driving in Hampson to tie the game for the Jumbo Shrimp.

Jacksonville and Norfolk continue their series Saturday at 6:35 p.m. RHP Edward Cabrera (1-0, 3.00 ERA) gets the nod for the Jumbo Shrimp, and LHP Bruce Zimmermann (3-4, 3.13 ERA) starts for the Tides. Coverage begins at 6:20 p.m. on Bally Live, MiLB.tv., ESPN 690, and espn690.com.
