Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Troy Johnston finished a triple shy of the cycle, Avisaíl García homered and Patrick Monteverde pitched 5.2 strong innings Friday to win his Triple-A debut for the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp in a 5-4 victory over the Gwinnett Stripers in front of 5,775 fans at 121 Financial Ballpark.

Vaughn Grissom homered in the top of the first for Gwinnett (44-55, 11-13), but Jacksonville grabbed the lead right back in their first at-bats. García doubled with two outs and Johnston followed by smacking a two-run home run off Stripers starter Michael Soroka (3-3).

With the same score in the third, Jacob Amaya singled. García blasted a home run to the opposite field to widen the gap to 4-1.

The score remained that way until the sixth. Braden Shewmake singled to lead off the frame. Two batters later, Joe Dunand doubled before Hoy Park walked to load the bases. Yolmer Sánchez followed with a sacrifice fly.

That was the extent of the damage against Monteverde, who ceded just two runs on four hits on 5.2 innings. He struck out five and walked two to earn the win.

In the bottom of the sixth, Johnston doubled with one out, advanced to third on a ground out and scored on a wild pitch to extend the lead to 5-2.

The Stripers came charging back again in the eighth. Dunand was hit by a pitch to start the inning. After a strikeout, consecutive walks loaded the bases for Daniel Robertson, who knocked in a pair with a base hit. Sean Reynolds entered the game, struck out Justin Dean and induced Luke Williams into a ground out to get out of the jam. Reynolds then fired a scoreless ninth for his third save.

LHP Enmanuel De Jesus (3-3, 6.12 ERA) starts for the Jumbo Shrimp in Saturday's 6:35 p.m. first pitch. Coverage begins at 6:20 p.m. on Bally Live, MiLB.tv, ESPN 690 and www.ESPN690.com.

On '80s Night, the first 2,000 fans through the gates of Saturday's contest will receive an '80s shirt presented by 96.9 The Eagle. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. for the 6:35 p.m. first pitch.
