Iowa Cubs News Release

MEMPHIS, TN - The Iowa Cubs (58-40) fell to the Memphis Redbirds (51-49) by a score of 5-3 on Friday night from Autozone Park to even the series at two games apiece.

The Redbirds gained an early advantage with two runs in the first inning. Masyn Winn took the very first pitch he saw from Iowa starter Nick Neidert over the fence in center field for a solo home run. A couple of batters later, Luken Baker drove in the second run of the frame with an RBI double to the gap in right center field.

The 2-0 score held until Iowa was finally able to get some offense going against Memphis starter Gordon Graceffo in the sixth. Back-to-back singles by Darius Hill and Nelson Velazquez put two runners on for Matt Mervis and the left-handed hitter delivered by poking a single into shallow right field to cut the deficit to 2-1.

Memphis responded in the bottom of the inning, however, and increased its lead to 5-1 off relief pitcher Danis Correa, who made his Triple-A season debut tonight. Moises Gomez brought in the first run with an RBI single and the other two runs scored off a strikeout that escaped to the backstop.

Iowa cut into Memphis' lead in the following inning with a two-run homer from Bryce Windham to make it a 5-3 ballgame, but those would go down as the final runs of the game.

POSTGAME NOTES:

- Cam Sanders tossed 2.0 innings in relief for Iowa and did not allow a run, hit, or walk to go along with a pair of strikeouts.

- Bryce Windham's home run was his first at the Triple-A level and his first homer in any game since August 17, 2022.

Iowa and Memphis will play game five of the series tomorrow night, with first pitch from Autozone Park scheduled for 6:35 pm CT. You can listen to all Iowa Cubs games on Hope AM940 and stream them for free on the Bally Live App. For more information and tickets, visit www.iowacubs.com.
