Jeremy Cruz placed on DL; Ricky Alvarez arrives from Orem

Cedar Rapids, IA - The Cedar Rapids Kernels and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim announce that INF Jeremy Cruz has been placed on the 7-day DL with a concussion, and that INF Ricky Alvarez will join the Kernels from the Orem Owlz of the Pioneer League. Abe Flores, Director of Player Development for the LA Angels, announced the move on Monday.

The Angels signed Alvarez as a non-drafted free agent in 2008 out of Otay Ranch HS in Chula Vista, CA. He spent 2009 with the AZL Angels, batting .273 with 4 HR and 41 RBI in 54 games. He played three games at Orem this year, hitting .154 (2-13) with a run scored.

Cruz is hitting .313 with 2 HR and 11 RBI in 23 games for the Kernels, playing first base, third base and the outfield. He was hit by a pitch in the 6th inning of Friday's 4-2 loss at Peoria.

Alvarez will join the Kernels in Beloit and be available for tonight's 7:00 pm game with the Snappers. With today's transactions, the Kernels roster is at the MWL maximum of 25 active players with three players currently on the disabled list.

The Kernels continue a six game road trip tonight at 7:00 pm in Beloit and return to Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium on Thursday, July 1st. Tickets may be purchased on-line at www.kernels.com, or by calling the Kernels Ticket Office at 896-7560. Ticket office hours are 10 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday, and 10 am to 2 pm on Saturday.
