
Jackals Slip Past Stingrays to Wrap up Weekend

Elmira, NY - The South Carolina Stingrays (34-17-2-3) closed a three-game in three-day weekend Sunday afternoon, falling to the Elmira Jackals (21-27-2-5) 3-2 at First Arena. Forwards Paul Rodrigues and Luke Greiner scored for the Stingrays.
Former Stingrays forward Jordan Pietrus opened the scoring and gave the Jackals a 1-0 lead off a power-play tally at 7:43 of the first period, backhanding a loose puck past netminder Max Strang (L, 19 saves on 22 shots).
Forward Artem Demkov made it a two-goal Jackals advantage 1:28 into the second period, but the Stingrays quickly responded with Rodrigues' sixth goal of the season slipping a wrist shot under the glove of Jackals goaltender Neil Conway (W, 38 saves on 40) from the left-wing circle at 3:59. Forwards Kyle Bodie and Anthony Collins added assists. Jackals captain Jean Bourbeau made it 3-1 on the man advantage at 5:35. Late in the period and with defenseman Steve Spinell in the penalty box, Greiner smashed in a pass from forward Wayne Simpson off the near post for his second shorthanded goal of the season at 16:56. Defenseman Ryan Grimshaw added the second assist.
The Stingrays powered 16 shots on goal in the third period to the Jackals' five, but Conway held on to take the victory. The Stingrays finished the contest 0-for-3 on the power play while the Jackals went 2-for-3.
The Stingrays continue a season-long six-game road trip in the Midwest, visiting the Toledo Walleye in Toledo, Ohio on Wednesday, March 5 at 7:15 p.m. at the Huntington Center and move over to Kalamazoo, Michigan to take on the Kalamazoo Wings on Friday, March 7 at 7:30 p.m. at Wings Stadium. The trip closes on Friday, March 14 against the Gwinnett Gladiators at The Arena at Gwinnett Center at 7:05 p.m. in Duluth, Georgia. The
