Idaho Steelheads News Release

Bakersfield, CA (3/2/14) - The Bakersfield Condors scored goals on five of their first seven shots Sunday afternoon and the Idaho Steelheads could never recover, suffering a 7-1 defeat at Rabobank Arena.

The seven goals allowed and six-goal defeat were season-highs for Idaho (29-20-7).

Bakersfield piled it on early, scoring on its first shot, a George Hughes blast from the top of the left-wing circle at the 1:16 mark to set the tone. The Condors would add goals at 2:35, 5:26 and 9:49 to make it 4-0, ending Josh Robinson's night in net for Idaho. The first shot Pat Nagle saw also found the back of the net at 10:14 of the first, making it a 5-0 game.

Bakersfield notched the only goal of the second as well at 15:02, offsetting a number of scoring opportunities that were denied by Laurent Brossoit. The Steelheads did lose rookie defenseman Matt Walters after he was boarded by Bakersfield's Ryan Little at 6:52 of the second. The team was already playing without captain Patrick Cullity, suspended by the ECHL prior to the game, leaving Idaho with just four natural defensemen for over half of the hockey game.

After a Bakersfield goal made it a 7-0 game, Idaho would break up the shutout bid with the team's ninth short-handed goal of the season. Rob Linsmayer carried the puck into the offensive zone and dropped the puck to Luke Judson, who buried a blast past Brossoit at the 9:52 mark of the third period for his tenth goal of the season, six of which have come in 14 games since joining Idaho in early February.

Robinson took the loss in net for Idaho, allowing four goals on six shots. Nagle stopped 13 of 16 in relief as Idaho held the Condors to just 22 total shots on net. Idaho only managed 17, tied for the fewest of the season.

Neither team scored on the power play, Idaho going 0-2 and Bakersfield going 0-3 in a relatively whistle-free game.

The Steelheads return home next week to host three games against Las Vegas on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Friday and Saturday are the annual "Pink in the Rink" games as Idaho will wear special jerseys that will be auctioned off via silent auction to raise money for St. Luke's Mountain States Tumor Institute.
