Wranglers Superhuman in 3-1 Win over Steelheads
March 2, 2014 - ECHL (ECHL)
Las Vegas Wranglers News Release
Las Vegas - Sporting Spider-Man-inspired "Super Hero" jerseys, the Las Vegas Wranglers clobbered the Idaho Steelheads 3-1 on Saturday Night behind goaltender Travis Fullerton, who made 30 saves in the win. Chad Nehring and Matt Tassone both added to their torrid scoring paces as the Wranglers put forth a relentless effort in the offensive zone, outshooting Idaho 37-31 on the night.
Immediately following the game the Wranglers capped off the win by auctioning off all game-worn specialty jerseys with proceeds benefiting Children's Hospital of Nevada at UMC.
Just 4:40 into the first period Las Vegas would jump on top, as Tassone buried his 11th of the season, giving him 11 points in his last 13 games, assisted by Shawn Skelly (11).
Chad Nehring (12) then would add to the lead midway through the second period, assisted by John Armstrong (10) and Ryan Forgaard (2). The goal, which gave Nehring 14 points in the last 15 contests, put Las Vegas on top 2-0 with 12:15 to go in the second.
The Steelheads would make things interesting early in the third though, as just 59 seconds into the final frame Tommy Grant (18) made it a 2-1 game with assists from William Rapuzzi (14) and Luke Judson (7). But Las Vegas would ice the game with 36 seconds to go, as Armstrong (10) grabbed his second point of the night, hurling an empty netter the length of the ice, giving the Wranglers the 3-1 win.
Next up, both the Wranglers and Steelheads will travel to Boise, Ida. for games on Wednesday, Mar. 5, Friday, Mar. 7 and Saturday, Mar. 8. Following the trip to Idaho, the Wranglers will then continue their six-game road swing with hikes to Ontario on Friday, Mar. 14, Stockton on Sunday, Mar. 16 and Bakersfield on Tuesday, Mar. 18, before returning back to Las Vegas on Thursday, Mar. 20 to take on the Stockton Thunder.
