Greenville Swamp Rabbits News Release
Toledo, OH: The Road Warriors collected six of six possible points this weekend with a 5-2 win on Sunday night against the Toledo Walleye.
The Road Warriors jumped out to a 1-0 lead for the second straight night against the Walleye. Andrew Rowe won a face-off in the Toledo zone that Brad Cole fired on net. The shot was tipped by Lindsay Sparks for his first goal as a Road Warrior and sixth of the year. The goal moved Sparks' point streak to three games, all of which in a Road Warriors uniform. The Road Warrior outshot Toledo 14-10 in the first period.
The second period began with a fight between Emerson Clark and Tyler Elbrecht. Clark was issued an extra ten minute miscount for continuing the altercation. The fight was the second of the night for Elbrecht who challenged Marc-Olivier Vallerand in the first period. Just minutes later Ryan Murphy delivered a big hit that brought a fight between he and Travis Novak. Tempers cooled down and the Road Warriors pushed their lead to two goals with a tally from Jordie Johnston. The forward scored on a wrist shot that beat Mac Carruth low blocker for his 20th of the year. The goal was assisted by Sam Klassen and Marc-Olivier Vallerand. Andrew Rowe extended the lead to 3-0 with a wrap-around goal for his team leading 21st goal of the season. The goal was assisted by Sparks and Josh Nicholls. Nicholls extended his point streak to seven games with the assist that gave Greenville a 3-0 lead heading into the third period.
8:46 into the third period Toledo began an offensive jolt with a goal from Brett Perlini. The former Road Warriors scored his third of the year with a wrist shot over Jeff Malcolm's blocker. Just 54 seconds later, Aaron Clarke scored his 17th of the year to bring the game to a 3-2 Road Warriors lead. Nicholls fired back for his 11th of the year with 7:06 left to give Greenville a 4-2 lead. Rowe intercepted the puck in the Toledo zone to find Nicholls alone in the slot to return to a two-goal lead. Rowe's assist gave him a three-point night. With 1:04 left, Scott Arnold put the exclamation point on the win with his 16th of the year assisted by Clark and Bretton Cameron. Malcolm made 30 saves to give him a record of 9-5-2 and earn him his third straight win.
