Wranglers Claim Watson off Waivers
March 2, 2014 - ECHL (ECHL)
Las Vegas Wranglers News Release
Las Vegas - The Las Vegas Wranglers have claimed goaltender Josh Watson off waivers from the Idaho Steelheads. The Lititz, Penn. native and former BCHL Playoff MVP has appeared in seven total ECHL games this year, posting a 2-3-1 record with a 2.83 goals against average.
Watson, 23, played three years at the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), where over 26 games he amassed eight total wins. Watson was selected to the AHA All-Academic team in each of his three seasons with the Tigers (2010-11, 2011-12, 2012-13). Prior to his time at RIT, the 6-foot-2 goaltender spent two seasons with the New England Jr. Falcons of the EJHL and Powell River Kings of the BCHL, where he posted an impressive playoff run of 23 games with just a 1.92 GAA and .927 save percentage. During that run, Watson led the BCHL in playoff wins (15), playoff shutouts (4) and playoff save percentage (.927), while also receiving the award for playoff Most Valuable Player.
Once he departed from RIT, Watson began his professional career in 2013-14 with the Reading Royals (ECHL), appearing in two games and allowing just four goals, posting a 1-0-0 record. After that, Watson made his way to Idaho, where through five games he posted a 3.03 GAA along with a .905 save percentage, going 1-3-1.
Watson will travel with the team to face his former squad, the Idaho Steelheads, next week. The Wranglers will play three games up in Boise, Ida. on Wednesday Mar. 5, Friday Mar. 7 and Saturday Mar. 8, before returning to Las Vegas.
