Elmira Jackals News Release
ELMIRA, NY - The Elmira Jackals, proud member of the ECHL, finished up a five-game southern road trip with a win at Gwinnett and returned home for a three-game home sweep to extend their season-high winning streak to six games. In the process, the Jackals took over first place in the North Division by four points over second place Cincinnati.

Sparked by shorthanded goals twenty-four seconds apart by LUKE FULGHUM and BRETT PILKINGTON early in the third period to tie the game at 3-3, the Jackals exploded for five unanswered goals in the final period to capture their first win of the year when trailing after two periods. PILKINGTON led the way with a pair of goals and an assist while TOMAS KUDELKA's goal put the Jackals up for good 4-3 at 8:28 of the final period and Rbk Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week made an ECHL career-high 46 saves in net.

The line of BRETT PILKINGTON (1+3=4), SHAWN WELLER (1+3=4) and BOBBY ROBINS (1+1=2) sparked the Jackals' return to home ice for the first time since November 11th. Goaltender JOEL MARTIN stopped 16 shots for his second shutout of the year.

After surrendering a shorthanded goal in the first period, JIM McKENZIE tied the game at 1-1 and captain FRANK LITTLEJOHN followed up forty-four seconds later with a penalty shot goal that stood up as the game-winner in Elmira's fifth straight victory. DAN LaCOSTA extended his personal win streak to four in net with 33 saves.

SHAWN WELLER scored the only regulation goal and added a shootout marker as the Jackals took their sixth win in a row. BENOIT DOUCET netted the shootout clincher for Elmira, whose three overtime affairs this season have all gone to shootouts. For WELLER, it was his third straight game with a goal while D JON LANDRY picked up an assist in a fourth straight contest, a season-high for the Jackals.

The second of ten regular season meetings takes place in Ohio in Elmira's first ever visit to The Nutter Center. The Jackals took the only previous meeting between the clubs 2-0 on November 9th in Elmira behind JOEL MARTIN's 27-save performance.

This contest marks the third of ten scheduled dances between the clubs this season in the North Division. The teams split a pair of earlier meetings at First Arena. The Jackals took a 5-2 Halloween night decision before Cincy countered with a 5-1triumph on November 2nd.
Jackals Bites: The Jackals are currently on an American Conference best 6-game winning streak and have ascended to the North Division lead with 25 points (CIN 21, REA 19)...The club's Tuesday win at Gwinnett marked the first win when trailing after forty minutes of play (down 3-1, won 6-3)...The five goals in the third period Tuesday at Gwinnett was a season-high for productivity in one period...The Tuesday win capped off a 4-1 southern swing for the club with wins at Mississippi and Gwinnett along with taking two of three from the Texas Wildcatters...The Jackals picked up their win when trailing after twenty minutes of action Saturday vs. Reading (down 1-0, won 4-1)...The penalty killing unit has put together a string of 16 consecutive kills while climbing to #8 in the league at 85.2% efficiency...Elmira's pair of games this week in Ohio wraps up a taxing 13-game/20-day stretch that began on November 9th with a 2-0 win over Dayton and finds the Jackals 9-2 in the first 11 contests in the string...D Jon Landry picked up an assist Sunday vs. Columbia to extend his team and season-high point streak to four games (1+5=6)...C Brett Pilkington capped off an eight-point week (3+5=8) with an assist Sunday vs. Columbia and now has 10 points (3+7=10) in seven games since being traded to Elmira from Mississippi 11/15...The Jackals current win streak has been anchored by a capable 1-2 punch in net with Dan LaCosta's 2.24 GAA 6th in the league and Joel Martin's 2.36 placing him 8th...LaCosta's .935 save percentage is tied for third in the ECHL...LW Shawn Weller scored once in regulation Sunday to extend his goal streak to three games and converted in the shootout as well...Pilkington (1+3), Weller (1+3), and RW Bobby Robins (1+1) combined for ten points in Friday's win over Trenton...Robins' goal vs. Trenton was his team-leading 5th on the power play and seventh overall, tying him for the team lead with Pierre-Luc Faubert...Captain Frank Littlejohn converted on the club's first ever penalty shot opportunity Saturday and it doubled as the game-winner in a 4-1 triumph over Reading.
Jackals On the Air: All 72 regular season games will air live on MAGIC FM (92.7/97.7) beginning with the Hill Top Inn Countdown to Face-Off 30 minutes prior to game time (except televised games). WETM-2 will televise 11 Friday night contests live from First Arena with coverage beginning at 7:30 p.m. each night. A free audio stream and a pay-per-view video stream are available at www.jackalshockey.com. The team's weekly Coach's Show airs Mondays throughout the season from 6 p.m. - 7 p.m. on NewsTalk 1230/1450 and is also available on-line via www.jackalshockey.com.
