Checkers Trade For Darling

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - General manager and head coach of the Charlotte Checkers, Derek Wilkinson, announced today that the team has traded for goaltender Curtis Darling from the Reading Royals in exchange for future considerations.

Darling, 6-foot-2, 185 pounds, hails from Calgary, Alberta. He signed his first professional contract with the Royals during this past off season and suited up in two games. In those two games, he a managed record of zero wins and one loss while holding a goals against average of 2.49 with a save percentage of .923. The 24-year-old goaltender played the three previous seasons for the University of Waterloo in Canadian Interuniversity Sports (CIS).

The Checkers began their 15th season of play as a member of the ECHL. The next home game takes place on Nov. 30 against the Columbia Inferno. In the team's 14-year history, the Checkers have made the playoffs 10 times including three consecutive playoff appearances to date. The Checkers will enter their third season of play at St. Lawrence Homes Home Ice at Charlotte Bobcats Arena this fall. Season tickets are on sale now with full-season packages starting at just $399.
