Albuquerque Isotopes News Release

NEED TO KNOW : There was plenty of offense Sunday afternoon at Isotopes Park as the Albuquerque Isotopes (2-2) outslugged the Reno Aces (2-2) 16-10. With the win, the Isotopes earned a split of the season-opening four-game series.

DECIDING MOMENT : The Isotopes and Aces battled back-and-forth all afternoon. Reno opened up a 6-2 lead after just three innings, only to have Albuquerque score five in the fourth to take a 7-6 advantage. The teams traded blows in the sixth and seventh before the Topes put the game out of reach with a six-run eighth inning. Angelys Nina and Kyle Parker opened the inning with back-to-back singles before Matt McBride doubled in a run. After a Roger Bernadina walk, Tim Smalling singled in Parker, and pinch hitter Cristhian Adames singled in McBride and Bernadina. In his second at-bat of the inning, Nina smashed a two-run double that capped the 16-run afternoon for Albuquerque.

SOMEONE PINCH ME: The Isotopes sent three pinch hitters to the plate Sunday afternoon, and the trio went a combined 3-for-3 with two home runs and five RBI. Brandon Barnes got the pinch-hit magic rolling with a solo shot to lead off the sixth. Just an inning later, Ben Paulsen pulled a two-run blast onto the berm before a two-RBI single by Cristhian Adames capped the afternoon's clutch hitting.

PRODUCTION FROM THE TOP: The first four batters in the Isotopes lineup combined to go 9-for-20 with two walks, two doubles, five runs scored and seven RBI. Kyle Parker paved the way with his 3-for-6 outing, including a double and two RBI. Tim Wheeler and Angelys Nina each turned in 2-for-5 days, while Tim McBride added a 2-for-4 showing.

NEW UNI'S MUST FEEL NICE: This offseason the Isotopes introduced two new uniforms into their combinations: a red alternate logo jersey for Fridays and a purple jersey for Sundays. So far, the Isotopes are 2-0 in their new threads.

DE LA ROSA'S SECOND START: Colorado Rockies ace Jorge De La Rosa is scheduled to make his second rehab start with Albuquerque on Tuesday. He first pitched for the Isotopes Opening Night, tossing four innings of four-hit, one-run ball.

ON DECK: The Isotopes will welcome the Tacoma Rainiers to town for a four-game series beginning Monday at 6:35 p.m. Right-hander Jair Jurrjens will get the starts for Albuquerque, while Tacoma will go with lefty Mike Montgomery.

IN THE HOLE: After wrapping up the season-opening eight game homestand on Thursday, the Isotopes will hit the road for a season-longest 12-game, 13-day road trip to Reno, Tacoma and Las Vegas.
