Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
Metairie, LA - Brett Eibner homered and the Omaha bullpen spun five scoreless innings in a 5-1 decision over New Orleans Saturday night in the third of four meetings at Zephyr Field. The Storm Chasers have taken two of the first three games of the set to match their win total in each of the last two campaigns in Louisiana, where they had gone a combined 4-12.
Following a better than two hour rain delay at the outset, the visitors wasted no time getting on the board against Zephyrs' starter Adam Conley in the first inning. The NOLA left-hander walked Ryan Jackson and Eibner before Moises Sierra brought them home with a double, advanced to third base on the throw to the plate and scored on a Cheslor Cuthbert fly out. Eibner belted the team's first home run of the season, a solo shot in the third, to boost the visitors advantage to 4-0.
Omaha starter Christian Binford walked a pair of batters in the home third before Brady Shoemaker's two-out single chased home the Z's only run. The 22-year-old right-hander stranded a runner at third with one out in the fourth and finished his first Triple-A regular season start allowing four hits, walking three and fanning one. It was only the third time in 55 career turns that Binford had issued three free passes in a game.
Chris Dwyer assumed the hill and kept the hosts off the board in the fifth and sixth innings but was lifted with a pair of runners on and one out in the seventh. Joe Paterson followed and induced a pop up and recorded a strikeout to end the threat. The southpaw then retired the side in order in the eighth to earn the win in his Omaha debut and gave way to Michael Mariot, who took over in a non-save situation after Jose Martinez singled home a run in the top of the ninth and closed it out.
The series wraps up Sunday afternoon with Omaha right-hander Yohan Pino getting the starting assignment against NOLA righty Andre Rienzo. Coverage of the game begins at 12:40 pm and can be heard locally on 1180 Zone 2 The Deuce and online at omahastormchasers.com.
