Tacoma Rainiers News Release
EL PASO, Texas -- J esus Montero and Patrick Kivlehan each homered as the Tacoma Rainiers dropped their series finale with El Paso 7-6 at Southwest University Park on Sunday.
Montero erased a 2-1 Rainiers deficit with a solo blast - his first of the season - to lead off the fourth inning, and Kivlehan notched his second home run over his last three games with a go-ahead one-run shot one out later.
The two home runs made up the first half of a four-run frame for Tacoma in the fourth. James Jones accounted for the third run of the inning after lining an RBI single with two outs, and Leury Bonilla upped the Rainiers lead to 5-2 after scoring from third base on a balk.
After El Paso's Ramiro Pena tied the score at 5-5 with a sacrifice fly in the fifth and Brett Wallace hit a go-ahead RBI single in the sixth, Carlos Rivero evened the score at 6-6 for Tacoma with a sacrifice fly in the top of the eighth inning. That score held until Wallace delivered a game-deciding RBI single in the bottom of the same frame.
Tacoma collected 10 hits in the contest, led by 2-for-4 efforts from Montero and Kivlehan. The third baseman Rivero and outfielder Stefen Romero each collected doubles to extend their hitting streaks to four games. Rivero is now batting .600 (9x15) with three extra-base hit and six RBI this season. Romero is hitting .381 (8x21) with three doubles and six RBI so far in 2015.
Reliever Justin Germano (0-1) was dealt the loss after surrendering the game-winning single to Wallace in the eighth. Starter Mike Kickham surrendered five runs on six hits in 4.1 innings. The left-hander fanned one and issued five walks in his Tacoma debut.
The Rainiers (2-2) begin the second leg of the team's season-opening eight-game road trip when they start a four-game series at Albuquerque tomorrow, April 13. Left-hander Mike Montgomery (NR) will make his 2015 debut in a start for Tacoma. Right-hander Jair Jurrjens (NR) is expected to start for the Isotopes. First pitch is set for 5:35 p.m.
